While you are waiting for your order to arrive you can be preparing your cover letter and resume that you will be sending to the coaches. The cover letter should be a description of how you play soccer. The object of the cover letter is to tell the coach why he needs you on his team. Talk yourself up!

The resume is a detailed history of your soccer career. This should include all the teams you have played for, how well they have done, as well as how well you have done while playing on those teams. Statistics like goals scored, assists, points, shutouts, goals-against-average as well as any awards and championships you've won should be included. I suggest that you include a brief academic history of yourself in the resume too. This should include the grades you have recieved on national exams like the ACT or SAT if you have taken them. This info could help the coach determine if you should apply for an academic scholarship. Most schools have minimum academic requirements for getting into the University. Your academic history will show the coach whether you will be accepted or not.

You should include a list of references that the coaches can contact if they want to find out more about you. These should be coaches or instructors that you have played for that you feel will give a good recommendation of you.

Having a video of yourself playing in a game could help coaches decide if you're the player for them, especially if they can't watch you play in person. If you have a video that you are willing to send to a coach, you may want to write at the bottom of your resume 'Video available upon request'. This way you will only have to send it to the coaches who are interested in you. This said, one of my sons recieved a soccer scholarship without the coaches ever seeing him play. My other son recieved a scholarship offer after the coach invited him to come for a visit and see him play.
